  Western India Science Fair

Western India Science Fair is supported by Chhattisgarh Council of Science & Technology to stimulate students from standard VIII -XII to take active interest in Science, Engineering and Mathematics and to provide a platform to nurture their creativity. **The Fairs further aim to provide an educational experience by exposing them to the judges and the public to give confidence and public recognition for their work. Science Fairs are organized by State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) on yearly basis. For students two competitions Individual Projects and Team Projects and for teachers Teaching Aids competition is organised at Block, District, Zone and State level and the selected one participate in Western India Science Fair.

Who can participate?

Students from standard VIII to XII from Indian school can participate in the Western India Science Fair through the Block/District/Zone/State level competitions.

Topics for the fair

Physics: Theories, principles and laws governing energy and the effect of energy on matter - solid state, optics, acoustics, particle, nuclear, atomic, plasma, super conductivity, fluid and gas dynamics, thermodynamics, semiconductors, magnetism, quantum mechanics, biophysics etc.

Computer Science: Study and development of computer hardware, software, engineering, internet networking and communications, graphics (including human interface), simulations/virtual reality or computational science (including data structures, encryption, coding and information theory).

Mathematics: Development of formal logical systems or various numeral or algebraic computations and the application of these principles - calculus, geometry, abstract algebra, number theory, statistics, complex analysis and probability.

Engineering: Technology, projects that directly apply scientific principles to manufacturing and practical uses - civil, mechanical, aeronautical, chemical, electrical, photographic, sound, automation, marine, heating and refrigerating, transportation, environmental engineering etc.

Environmental Science: Study of pollution (water and land) sources and their control, ecology etc.

Bio-Chemistry: Chemistry of life processes - molecular biology, molecular genetics, enzymes, photosynthesis, blood chemistry, protein chemistry, food chemistry, hormones etc.

Chemistry: Study of nature and composition of matter and laws governing it – physical chemistry, organic chemistry (other than biochemistry), inorganic chemistry, materials, plastic, fuels, pesticides, metallurgy, soil chemistry etc.

Earth & Space Sciences: Geology, minerology, physiography, oceanography, meteorology, climatology, astronomy, speleology, seismology, geography etc.

Botany: Study of plant life-agriculture, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, Plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant pathology, plant genetics, hydroponics, algae etc.

What is expected?

Considering the high level of competition at various stages and prestige of the Fair, the projects must have innovation, uniqueness, originality, quality and research potential which would reveal something new. It must be investigatory in nature. The researcher must maintain a diary of stages of experimentation and data. Help of a research scientist, teacher or parent could be taken as a guide.

  National Science Seminar

National Science Seminar is supported by Chhattisgarh Council of Science & Technology to provide students upto class X, an unique opportunity to use their scientific temperament and knowledge to make their own ideas come true .The State level Science Seminar is organized by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) on yearly basis. The objective of the Science Seminar is to inculcate a spirit of scientific enquiry and analytical thinking in the minds of young students. The Science Seminar is held on a competitive basis in each State and Union Territory. Every year a theme is Chosen by National Council of Science Museum, Kolkata. Two winners from each block participate in District level Competition. Two winners from each District participate in Zone level contest and from each Zone two winners participate in State level and only one winner from each State/Union Territory is eligible for National level Competition.

Participants: Students unto Class X only.

Language: English, Hindi or any recognized Indian language.

Duration: Participants shall make his/her presentation on the topic for a maximum duration of 6 minutes. This will be followed by a two minutes Question-Answer Session with the judges on the same topic. Each participant of the State/Union Territory will be asked 3 (three) questions by the judges and the participant will be required to give answer for 2 questions asked in two minutes. There will be written aptitude test for all the participants before the start of the seminar.

  Science Quiz Competitions

The science quiz aims to inculcate a spirit of scientific enquiry and analytical thinking amongst the students of High School (IX, X) and Middle School (VII, VIII) of Chhattisgarh State. Science Quiz Competitions are supported by Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology and organized by State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT). Quiz competitions are organized at four levels, Block, District, Zone and State level on yearly basis.The science quiz aims to inculcate in the minds of young students a spirit of scientific enquiry and analytical thinking, to provide a platform to the budding scientists for exchanging thoughts, and to nurture a feeling of national integration among young talents from every corner of the country.

In Chhattisgarh there are 146 blocks and 27 education districts. 27 districts are divided into 9 zones.

  • Raipur zone : Raipur, Gariyaband, Balodabazar, Mahasamund
  • Durg Zone : Durg, Rajnandgaon,Balod
  • Bilaspur zone : Bilaspur,Korba, Janjgir Champa
  • Kawardha zone : Kawardha,Mungeli,Bametara
  • Jagdalpur zone : Jagdalpur,Kondagaon
  • Kanker zone : Kanker,Dhamtari,Narayanpur
  • Dantewada zone : Dantewada,Sukma,Bijapur
  • Ambikapur zone : Ambikapur ,Korea,Balrampur,Surajpur
  • Raigarh zone : Raigarh ,Jashpur Nagar

Eligibility

The Students of High School (IX, X) and Middle School (VII, VIII) (Govt, Non-govt, Tribal-dept, Central Schools and Navodaya Schools) of Chhattisgarh State are eligible to compete.

Award

In state level 90 participants are given Rs. 1000/- each and a set of book and the selected 18 participants are given cash prize of Rs. 3000/- each.

  State Level Science Exhibition

State Level Science Exhibition is supported by Chhattisgarh Council of Science & Technology to stimulate students from standard IX -XII and teachers to take active interest in Science and to provide a platform to nurture their creativity. State Level Science Exhibition is organised by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) on yearly basis at four levels: Block, District, Zone & State. Various activities Exhibition Competition, Science Drama competition, quiz competition, Science club and Science seminar are organised under State level Science Exhibition.
