The Government of Chhattisgarh, aware of the vast potential of the natural resources in the State and eager to develop a scientific system of monitoring, exploitation and management of its resources is in a process of establishing a Chhattisgarh Space Applications Centre at Raipur under the umbrella of the C.G. Council of Science & Technology with the following objectives:
  • Survey and mapping of natural resources using remote sensing technique, research and development work, training of scientists/officers/faculty members and students in the field of remote sensing.
  • To assist C.G.State in the development and management activities/programmes using Remote Sensing and GIS techniques.
Crop Acreage and Production Estimation for Major Crops both Kharif & Rabi can be done using RADARSAT-SCANNAR data to generate the crop census in advance for estimation of production and acreage before the harvest of crop. This data is helpful for farmers, planners and decision makers of the State.Crop Acreage and Production Estimation (CAPE) Project is sponsored by Department of Agriculture & Co-operation, Govt. of India and is being executed by Chhattisgarh Council of Science & Technology in collaboration with Space Application Centre (SAC), Dept. of Space, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Crop acreage and Production Estimation for Kharif crop is being done for paddy for the year 2003-04.
National Wasteland updating Mission, National Remote Sensing Agency, Department of Space, Govt. of India, Hyderabad has approved wasteland Atlas updation project for Durg, Dhamtari, Raipur and Mahasamund District of Chhattisgarh State and it is being executed by the council. The objective of this project is to prepare the updated wasteland maps of these districts using Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) liss-III precision corrected data of year 2003 and also detect changes using earlier database. The statistics has to be generated with emphasis on waste shed programmes implemented by the Punchayat and the rural development department/ministry narrating the success stories.

Chhattisgarh Council of Science & Technology has taken up project- Rainwater Harvesting, Artificial recharge in four watersheds of Chhattisgarh, supported by Public Health Engineering Department, Govt. of Chhattisgarh.
